A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney for its National Security practice group in Washington, DC. This role will focus on advising clients—ranging from major corporations to state-owned entities—on international trade regulations, national security requirements, and government compliance. The ideal candidate will have expertise in CFIUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States), sanctions, export controls, and anti-bribery/anti-money laundering compliance. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-profile matters and assist clients in navigating complex regulatory landscapes.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on international trade regulations, including compliance with national security laws, CFIUS, sanctions, and export controls.
  • Provide strategic guidance on managing regulatory risks, particularly related to national security and foreign investments.
  • Assist clients in investigating potential breaches and implementing preventive and remedial measures to ensure compliance.
  • Represent clients in compliance matters and help resolve regulatory disputes.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in international trade, national security, and government regulations.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, including compliance reports and regulatory filings.
  • Collaborate with government entities and other stakeholders to ensure successful navigation of regulations.
  • Provide internal training and support on regulatory compliance matters.

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of experience in international trade, national security, and government regulation.
  • Experience with CFIUS regulations, sanctions, export controls, and anti-bribery/anti-money laundering compliance.
  • Strong interest in working on complex regulatory matters with national security implications.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and concise legal documents.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations.
  • Capacity to work independently while collaborating with a team on high-profile matters.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Bar of the District of Columbia or the ability to obtain membership upon hire.

Skills:

  • Expertise in CFIUS, sanctions, and export control regulations
  • Knowledge of anti-bribery and anti-money laundering compliance
  • Strong legal writing and research skills
  • Ability to handle complex regulatory issues and provide strategic counsel
