Job Title: Intellectual Property Professional Support Lawyer (PSL)
Job Location: New York City, NY

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in New York City seeks a highly skilled and motivated Intellectual Property (IP) Professional Support Lawyer (PSL). The ideal candidate will support the IP practice by staying current with developments in the legal and business environment, offering expertise in IP law, and providing support through mentoring, training, and creating practice resources. This position offers the opportunity to shape the IP practice, contribute to business development efforts, and engage in global knowledge initiatives.

Duties:

  • Current Awareness and Thought Leadership

    • Monitor legal and business developments, keeping the IP group and support team informed.

    • Identify trends and suggest innovative services to enhance client offerings.

    • Collaborate with the research team to produce newsletters and updates, leveraging internal and external sources.

    • Co-author research on legal developments relevant to IP.

  • Central Knowledge Projects

    • Champion new knowledge systems and help with training and inductions for new team members.

    • Contribute to global knowledge and innovation programs to boost collaboration across the firm.

  • Lawyer Training and Technical Expertise

    • Provide legal and practical expertise to all members of the IP group.

    • Organize and deliver targeted training, including workshops and seminars.

    • Mentor junior lawyers, providing guidance and supporting their development.

  • Know-How

    • Create practice notes and maintain useful materials on IP law topics.

    • Lead matter debriefs to build a comprehensive precedent library.

    • Ensure efficient management of knowledge and documentation systems.

  • Matter Management and Collaboration

    • Collaborate with business development teams to establish processes for matter descriptions and tracking.

    • Draft and update standard forms, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations.

  • Miscellaneous

    • Provide support for ad hoc legal queries.

    • Attend internal and external meetings, training, and conferences to stay updated on industry changes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in intellectual property law within a leading law firm.

  • Proven expertise in IP law, including litigation, transactional support, and understanding of patents, trade secrets, copyrights, and trademarks.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and drafting abilities.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues at all levels.

  • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

  • Ability to mentor and train junior team members.

  • Commercial awareness with a client-oriented approach.

  • Familiarity with the integration of technology and AI in legal workflows.
