The successful candidate will provide proactive and reactive counsel on privacy and data security matters, including advising on data security incidents, regulatory investigations, and compliance with legal obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal counsel on privacy and data protection compliance, including proactive and reactive measures.
  • Advise clients on privacy and security obligations under state, federal, and international laws.
  • Counsel clients on data security incident notification obligations across various jurisdictions.
  • Defend clients in regulatory investigations related to privacy and cybersecurity matters.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to manage data breaches and other cybersecurity incidents.
  • Lead and manage projects related to privacy and cybersecurity, ensuring timely and effective execution.
  • Develop and implement strategies for compliance with contractual and legal obligations concerning data security.
  • Draft and review privacy policies, data processing agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Conducted risk assessments and advised clients on mitigating potential legal and regulatory risks.
  • Stay current with evolving data privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations to provide informed legal advice.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated experience in privacy and cybersecurity breach response.
  • Experience advising on state, federal, and international data security incident notification obligations.
  • Proven track record of defending regulatory investigations related to privacy and security.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy and security laws and regulations.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional project management skills with the ability to handle complex, fast-paced workloads.
  • Strong awareness of data privacy and security laws.
  • Effective and persuasive written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with technically-skilled individuals and non-technical business team members, distilling complex issues into clear, actionable advice.
