Job Overview

A leading law firm is seeking an Innovation Counsel to support its Practice Innovation team. This attorney-level role is designed for professionals passionate about modernizing legal service delivery through the strategic use of technology and legal process improvement. The position involves close collaboration with attorneys, operations teams, and firm leadership to implement new tools, processes, and workflows. Duties

  • Provide legal insight on practice-specific technology adoption initiatives

  • Design and develop implementation playbooks for innovative legal tools and systems

  • Create and present executive briefings, reports, and presentations

  • Collaborate with legal and operational leadership to prioritize technology requests and projects

  • Partner with cross-functional innovation teams to define goals, success metrics, and timelines

  • Analyze current workflows to identify inefficiencies and propose technology-driven improvements

  • Lead or support pilots, rollouts, and enhancements of legal tech solutions

  • Coordinate with change management teams to support communication and adoption strategies

  • Maintain and scale practice group-specific innovation resources and automation efforts

  • Contribute to additional innovation projects based on evolving firm needs

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in legal practice or legal technology adoption

  • Active member in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar, or registered in-house counsel

  • Willingness to work extended hours or weekends as needed

  • Ability to travel occasionally to support implementation and training

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across legal, technology, and operational departments

  • Familiarity with financial and staffing models of large law firms

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent international legal degree

Certifications

  • Active bar license in a U.S. jurisdiction, including the jurisdiction of the assigned office, if applicable

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage executive audiences

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management tools such as iManage

  • Experience with legal technology platforms including:

    • iManage or NetDocs

    • Elite 3E

    • Intapp Suite

    • Litera, LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters

  • Familiarity with distributed systems and AI solutions in legal contexts

  • Presentation and facilitation skills for a variety of professional audiences

  • Knowledge of alternative legal service providers and managed services models

  • Ability to interpret data usage metrics and transform insights into recommendations

  • Adept at process mapping, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis

  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement across departments (legal, IT, operations, finance)

  • Capable of functioning in a matrixed team environment while balancing detail with broader goals
