A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking an Associate Attorney with 1+ years of civil litigation experience. The ideal candidate must have a Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution, be licensed to practice law in Texas, and demonstrate strong interest and aptitude in developing litigation skills.

 

Duties:

  • Prepare for trials, both bench and jury, as first or second chair.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct and defend depositions.
  • Participate in mediations, preparing thoroughly and representing clients effectively.
  • Engage in proactive and timely communication regarding case status and developments.
  • Maintain consistent and empathetic communication with clients.
  • Handle complex discovery work efficiently.
  • Manage a docket of approximately 40 to 60 cases.
  • Conduct casework independently with minimal reliance on support staff.

 

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude in litigation, including trial preparation and participation.
  • Ability to handle a wide range of casework, including trial preparation, drafting, depositions, mediations, and complex discovery.
  • Strong communication skills for client interactions and case updates.
  • Capability to manage a significant caseload independently.
  • Desire to litigate and progress towards board certification.

 

Education:

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited institution.

 

Certifications:

Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas.

 

Skills:

  • Strong legal drafting and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in trial preparation and participation.
  • Ability to conduct and defend depositions.
  • Effective mediation preparation and participation.
  • Proactive communication regarding case status and developments.
