A law firm seeks an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Pittsburgh office, specializing in labor and employment law. The ideal candidate will bring 4-6 years of experience counseling clients on a variety of labor-related issues. This role focuses primarily on advising public sector clients and includes opportunities for growth in collective bargaining, litigation, grievance arbitration, and handling employment law matters. Duties

  • Draft bargaining proposals and responses to grievances.
  • Prepare research memos, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints and respond to administrative agency complaints.
  • Represent clients in legal matters involving labor disputes, including employment discrimination and pension issues.
  • Assist with litigation defense in employment-related claims before state and federal courts, including civil rights matters.
  • Participate in collective bargaining negotiations and grievance or interest arbitration.
  • Engage in appellate litigation and represent clients before agencies such as the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board, PHRC, EEOC, and Department of Labor.
  • Provide legal counsel to clients on employment-related issues, developing strategies for addressing workplace challenges.
  • Research relevant case law, statutes, and regulations impacting labor and employment matters.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active Pennsylvania State Bar license.
  • 4-6 years of experience in labor and employment law, with a focus on public sector representation (preferred).
  • Proven experience in collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and litigating employment law matters.
  • Experience with pension disputes and employment discrimination/civil rights cases is a plus.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Ability to handle a high caseload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
  • A commitment to providing exceptional legal services and developing innovative solutions.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Pennsylvania State Bar License (Required).

Skills

  • Proficiency in legal research and utilizing resources like Westlaw or similar databases.
  • Strong written communication skills for drafting legal documents, including memos, briefs, and proposals.
  • Knowledge of labor and employment law, particularly in the public sector.
  • Experience in litigation, including representing clients in arbitration, mediation, and courtroom settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively under pressure.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) skills are a plus.
