Job Overview

A law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Associate Attorney with expertise in trade and national security to join its growing Washington, D.C. office. The position offers the opportunity to work with innovative clients across diverse industries, such as technology and life sciences, providing counsel on export control, sanctions, and foreign direct investment matters.

Location

  • Washington, D.C.

Duties

  • Advise clients on trade and economic sanctions, export controls (EAR and ITAR), OFAC compliance, and other trade policy matters.
  • Handle product classifications, license applications, rulemaking advocacy, and internal investigations.
  • Manage government enforcement proceedings, CFIUS, and FOCI filings.
  • Provide strategic compliance counseling to clients in technology and life sciences sectors.
  • Work directly with clients, including company founders and senior government officials, on complex national security issues.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in trade and national security law.
  • Proven track record in handling export controls, sanctions, and compliance issues, particularly with EAR, ITAR, and OFAC.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to maintain client relationships.
  • Intellectual curiosity and demonstrated leadership qualities.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to or eligibility for the Washington, D.C. Bar.

Skills

  • Superior academic credentials and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in fast-paced environments with an affinity for technology and life sciences industries.
  • Ability to manage complex cases with minimal supervision and handle high-level client interactions.
