Biotechnology Patent Agent

A law firm seeks a highly qualified Biotechnology Patent Agent with expertise in patent counseling, preparation, and prosecution, focusing on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. This role is based in Palo Alto and will involve working closely with clients to secure and manage their intellectual property rights, particularly through strategic patent services.

Duties:

• Prepare and file domestic and international patent applications related to biotechnology innovations.
• Provide clients with strategic guidance on intellectual property matters, including patentability assessments and portfolio management.
• Draft patent opinions and conduct in-depth patent analysis to advise clients on IP strategy.
• Collaborate with legal teams and clients to develop and execute effective intellectual property strategies.
• Assist in managing clients’ intellectual property portfolios, offering customized advice to align with business goals.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling within biotechnology or a related industry.
• Experience in handling both domestic and international patent applications.
• Previous experience drafting patent opinions, particularly within biotechnology, is preferred.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a closely related biological science.

Certifications:

• Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

• Strong legal writing and research abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex patent portfolios and offer strategic IP guidance.
• A high level of academic achievement and prior law firm experience is strongly preferred.
