Job Overview: A prominent law firm is seeking a mid-level to senior associate with 3 to 5 years of experience to support its Financial Services Regulatory practice. This role involves advising on a broad range of consumer financial laws and regulations, particularly non-mortgage credit. The ideal candidate will have experience with federal and state regulatory regimes and strong drafting skills for various audiences.

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice on federal consumer financial laws and regulations related to non-mortgage credit (e.g., EFTA, FCRA, FDCPA, GLBA, MLA, SCRA, TILA, UDAAP).
  • Offer guidance on state regulatory regimes (e.g., licensing, usury, disclosures) for non-mortgage consumer and small business credit.
  • Draft legal documents for in-house counsel, business teams, commercial counterparties, and regulators.
  • Assist with compliance reviews, regulatory due diligence, and transactional matters.
  • Collaborate on the development of consumer and small business financial programs, including licensing, compliance policies, and borrower-facing documents.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in financial services regulatory practice, including federal and state consumer financial laws.
  • Strong legal drafting and writing skills for various professional audiences.
  • Experience with asset classes such as consumer loans, credit cards, student loans, small business credit, and debt collection.
  • Ability to independently provide regulatory analysis and advice.
  • Proven track record of compliance assistance and due diligence in financial transactions.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD), with graduation between 2018 and 2021.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, with a preference for locations where the firm has an office (Charlotte, DC, Chicago, New York, or San Francisco Bay Area).

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Experience working in a law firm, government, or in-house legal department on financial regulatory matters.
