A law firm seeks a versatile and driven litigation attorney to contribute to its expanding practice of resolving complex business disputes and handling transactional matters. This role offers an opportunity to engage in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit analysis through trial, while also playing a key role in shaping case strategy and advising clients. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing cases independently, demonstrating both litigation proficiency and strong leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represents clients in diverse business-related legal conflicts, managing cases from initial client meetings through final resolution.
  • Prepares and argues motions, advocates in court proceedings, and presents well-structured oral arguments before judges and opposing counsel.
  • Drafts comprehensive legal analyses, research memoranda, and persuasive court filings.
  • Develops and responds to discovery requests, handles document review, and participates in evidence gathering.
  • Conducts and defends depositions, ensuring effective questioning and preserving client positions.
  • Crafts and serves targeted discovery requests, tailoring inquiries to suit case strategy.
  • Engages directly with opposing counsel to negotiate resolutions, balancing firm advocacy with pragmatic settlement evaluation.
  • Advises clients regarding legal risks, dispute resolution options, and recommended courses of action.
  • Maintains compliance with relevant procedural rules, professional conduct standards, and evolving legal requirements.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to brainstorm legal theories, refine strategies, and prepare for court proceedings.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of litigation experience OR at least 3 years focused on resolving commercial or corporate disputes, is strongly preferred.
  • An active license to practice law in Massachusetts is required; licensure in New Hampshire and/or Maine is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to work independently, while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience—whether through case management, mentoring, or broader professional or community involvement.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice in good standing within at least one required jurisdiction (Massachusetts).

Essential Skills:

  • Superior written communication and legal drafting abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong oral advocacy skills, capable of delivering concise, persuasive, and well-reasoned arguments in both trial and motion practice settings.
  • Exceptional analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex legal and factual issues.
  • Familiarity with disputes common to closely held businesses—such as breach of contract claims, fiduciary duty conflicts, partner/member disputes, and unfair trade practice claims under statutes like G.L. c.93A—is highly advantageous.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple cases concurrently.
  • Professionalism, integrity, and a client-focused approach to representation.

Benefits:

  • Employer contributions to health and dental coverage.
  • Participation in firm-sponsored 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Disability insurance coverage.
