Senior Criminal Defense Attorney

A premier law firm in Sacramento is seeking an experienced Senior Criminal Defense Attorney to join its growing criminal defense team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience handling criminal cases at various levels, including federal, state, and local courts. The Senior Criminal Defense Attorney will report directly to the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney and be responsible for managing a diverse caseload, interacting with clients, and working alongside a skilled team of attorneys and legal assistants.

Location:

Duties:

• Advise clients on their legal rights and responsibilities in criminal cases.
• Draft legal documents related to clients' cases.
• Attend pretrial hearings, providing clients with strategic advice following each hearing.
• Manage court appearances, trials, motions, interviews with witnesses, and perform legal research.
• Analyze case outcomes using knowledge of legal precedents and provide legal counsel accordingly.
• Oversee and manage a caseload of criminal cases.
• Provide legal analysis to clients, helping them understand potential case benefits.
• Gather and present additional evidence to support clients' positions or counter the prosecution's charges.
• Prepare clients for depositions and develop case strategy.
• Work closely with team members, including legal assistants, to manage cases effectively.

Requirements:

• Experience: Handling criminal defense cases at the federal, state, and local level.
• Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Exceptional legal research, drafting, and courtroom skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective case strategies.
• Team-oriented: Open to working with other associates and legal staff to strategize and provide high-level defense for clients.

Education:

• J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the California State Bar is required.

Skills:

• Extensive knowledge of criminal defense law and legal procedures.

• Experience with trial preparation, depositions, and handling complex legal cases.
