A law firm in Chicago is seeking a Mid-Level IP Litigation Life Sciences Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in biotechnology practice, with a strong background in Hatch-Waxman, biosimilar, or competitor pharmaceutical cases. This role requires excellent research, writing, and analytic skills, along with the ability to manage and mentor junior associates and work effectively as part of a team.

Duties:

  • Manage and participate in complex IP litigation matters related to life sciences, including Hatch-Waxman and biosimilar cases.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to support litigation strategies and case preparation.
  • Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
  • Provide strategic counsel and legal advice to clients on life sciences IP issues.
  • Mentor and supervise junior associates, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and practice groups to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
  • Represent clients in district court and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB).
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies tailored to client needs and case specifics.

Requirements:

  • At least three years of prior work experience in biotechnology IP litigation, with a preference for experience in Hatch-Waxman, biosimilar, or competitor pharmaceutical cases.
  • Strong academic credentials from an accredited law school.
  • Degree in a life sciences technology area such as biochemistry, biology, chemistry, biomedical science, chemical engineering, molecular biology, pharmacy, or a related field.
  • Licensed, or eligible to become licensed, to practice law in the jurisdiction(s) where applying.
  • Proven ability to manage and mentor junior associates effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, research, writing, and analytic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and creatively while also collaborating successfully as part of a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Degree in a relevant life sciences technology area.

Certifications:

  • Bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction(s), or eligibility to become licensed.

Skills:

  • Extensive experience in IP litigation related to life sciences, including Hatch-Waxman and biosimilar cases.
  • Strong research and writing skills with the ability to draft and review complex legal documents.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor junior associates.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective litigation strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex legal issues.
