A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking an experienced e-Discovery Counsel to join their team. This role involves both billable and non-billable responsibilities, focusing on analyzing, advising, and coordinating all aspects of electronic discovery. The e-Discovery Counsel will work closely with the Director of Litigation Support and e-Discovery, and will play a key role in advising clients and the Litigation Support Department on best practices related to document collection, retention, review, and production.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Electronic Discovery Coordination: Analyze, advise, and coordinate all aspects of electronic discovery for assigned projects and matters. Contribute to strategic decisions during the discovery and planning phases.
  • Client and Department Advisory: Provide guidance to the Litigation Support Department and select Firm clients on best practices for document collection, retention, review, and production in connection with litigation, regulatory compliance, subpoena responses, and similar matters.
  • Information Dissemination: Update, maintain, and distribute a master outline of discovery-related authority and other persuasive materials, including cases, articles, and conference reports. Conduct some document review as needed.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrate technical knowledge and expertise in e-Discovery review tools and platforms, including database searchability, OCR, extracted text, near-native review, predictive coding, e-mail threading, and text encoding.
  • Project Management: Manage multiple priorities, adjust to changing priorities, and meet deadlines and milestones for assigned projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confidentiality and Ethics: Maintain high ethical standards and strict confidentiality of Firm and client information.

Requirements

  • Education: Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensing: A license to practice law in the state and federal courts of Ohio.
  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant e-Discovery Technology or Litigation Support experience in a law firm or vendor setting.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Detailed planning and organization skills.
    • Strong service orientation with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, facilitate solutions, and meet deadlines.
    • Flexibility in schedule with some off-hour availability.
