Job Overview:
A well-established law firm based in Houston, TX, is seeking a skilled and motivated Patent Agent with experience in patent prosecution and litigation to join their dynamic practice. The firm focuses on electrical engineering, software, and mechanical engineering fields and is eager to welcome a dedicated professional to help manage and advance its intellectual property portfolio.

Duties:

  • Draft, prosecute, and manage patent applications for clients in the electrical engineering, software, and mechanical fields.
  • Work on patent litigation matters, providing technical expertise and assisting with case strategy.
  • Assist in preparing responses to office actions and other correspondence with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Collaborate with internal teams to review and evaluate patent portfolios for various clients.
  • Conduct patent searches and provide detailed analysis of prior art to support prosecution and litigation efforts.
  • Advise clients on patent-related matters, including strategy for protecting and enforcing their intellectual property rights.
  • Stay current with relevant changes in patent law, regulations, and case law.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in patent prosecution and litigation.
  • Registered to practice before the USPTO.
  • Strong background in electrical engineering, software engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field (mathematics or physics also considered).
  • Solid understanding of intellectual property law and related legal procedures.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • High level of analytical and organizational skills.

Education:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or Ph.D. are preferred but not required.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration is required.

Skills:

  • Strong technical expertise in electrical engineering, software engineering, or mechanical engineering.
  • Proficient in patent prosecution procedures and familiarity with patent litigation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
