Job Overview:
A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Trusts & Estates practice group. The role will focus on providing legal services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses, including estate planning, trust administration, and probate. This position offers an opportunity to work alongside senior attorneys and further develop expertise in the field.

Location:

  • Stamford, CT

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel and representation in estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters.
  • Draft, review, and finalize a variety of estate planning documents, such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Advise clients on strategies to minimize estate taxes and protect their assets.
  • Assist with the administration of estates and trusts, including preparing legal documents, managing asset distribution, and resolving disputes.
  • Stay current on developments in estate planning, tax law, and probate law through legal research.
  • Collaborate with financial advisors, accountants, and other professionals to develop comprehensive estate plans.
  • Represent clients in probate and trust administration court proceedings, as needed.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
  • Meet the firm’s requirement of 1,800 billable hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 4-6 years of experience in trusts and estates law.
  • Admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts bar (or ability to waive in).
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in the bar.
  • Experience in drafting estate planning documents, including various types of trusts, and managing complex estate and trust administration.
  • Knowledge of estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Experience representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court proceedings.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to draft clear, concise legal documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • High organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Ability to rapidly absorb and process new information.
  • Capability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude in a team-oriented environment.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York, Connecticut, and/or Massachusetts bar (or ability to waive in).
