Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney – Japanese Language Fluency Required

Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in San Diego, CA, is seeking a Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney to join their Electronics & Software team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of experience handling U.S. patent applications and will be bilingual in Japanese and English. This role will involve close collaboration with the firm's Tokyo office. The firm seeks a detail-oriented individual with strong written and verbal communication skills to manage a diverse patent prosecution docket.

Duties:

• Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications, focusing on electronics and software innovations
• Work with engineers and inventors to assess technical details and provide strategic patent guidance
• Engage in discussions with clients and legal teams to develop intellectual property strategies
• Review and evaluate patent portfolios to ensure legal and technical compliance
• Coordinate with the Tokyo office on cross-border matters and translation needs
• Participate in intellectual property litigation support as required
• Maintain organized and up-to-date records of patent filings and related correspondence

Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in patent prosecution
• Strong proficiency in both Japanese and English (verbal and written)
• Knowledge of patent laws and regulations, including those from the USPTO
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to handle complex technical information
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work in a team-oriented environment

Education:

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required

Certifications:

• USPTO registration is required
