Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a motivated Patent Agent with expertise in Organic Chemistry or a related field to assist in drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and international patent offices.

Duties:

• Draft patent applications and amendments under attorney supervision.
• Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses.
• Assist in prosecuting patent applications before the USPTO and foreign patent offices.
• Collaborate with inventors, scientists, and attorneys to understand inventions and draft comprehensive patent applications.
• Provide technical expertise during patent litigation and licensing negotiations.

Requirements:

• A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related scientific field.
• Strong ability to think critically and quickly grasp new technologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Preferably some experience in patent drafting and prosecution.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO or eligible and willing to sit for the registration exam.

Skills:

• Proficiency in technical and scientific writing.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex scientific data.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Team player with the ability to work independently under deadlines.
• Familiarity with patent databases and search tools.

Education and Certifications:

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or related scientific discipline.
• Registered to practice before the USPTO or eligible to sit for the registration exam.
