A law firm in Rochester, NY is seeking a CFIUS and International Trade/Export Controls Associate Attorney with experience in matters related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), export controls, and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). The ideal candidate will have the ability to support an active legal team in these areas and general knowledge of the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS) is preferred. This role offers the opportunity to work with clients on international trade compliance, export controls, and foreign investment matters.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on regulatory issues related to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), including foreign investment reviews and national security concerns.
  • Provide counsel on U.S. export controls and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) compliance.
  • Assist clients in preparing and submitting CFIUS filings and coordinating responses to government inquiries.
  • Support clients in navigating the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS) as applicable to defense-related contracts.
  • Conduct risk assessments and compliance audits related to international trade regulations, export controls, and foreign investments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to provide strategic legal advice on trade compliance and government contracting issues.
  • Draft and review legal documents related to export control laws, ITAR, and CFIUS filings.
  • Stay current on developments in international trade law, export control regulations, and foreign investment rules.
  • Support and advise corporate transactions involving foreign investments, mergers, and acquisitions.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Bar in the state of residence and in good standing.
  • Experience in CFIUS-related matters, U.S. export controls, and ITAR.
  • Ability to work within a team on complex international trade and export control issues.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the State Bar where the position is located (required).
  • Any certifications in international trade law or export compliance (preferred but not required).

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of CFIUS, export controls, and ITAR, with an ability to provide regulatory guidance and legal support.
  • Excellent research and writing skills for drafting legal documents, filings, and compliance reviews.
  • Ability to conduct in-depth legal analysis of foreign investment and export control regulations.
  • Strong project management skills to handle multiple cases and ensure compliance with regulatory deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for advising clients and working collaboratively with teams.
