Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced Procurement Attorney to join its legal team. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the firm’s procurement function, including negotiating and drafting a wide array of commercial agreements, providing legal counsel, and ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements. This position involves working closely with procurement teams, internal stakeholders, and case teams to identify and manage legal and business risks.

Duties

  • Provide legal counsel and collaborate with procurement teams on contract drafting, negotiation, and compliance for key vendor and third-party agreements.
  • Analyze, draft, and negotiate complex agreements, including master service agreements, IT supplier contracts, software licensing, data privacy agreements, and event agreements.
  • Advise case teams on vendor retentions, including expert and local counsel engagements, Kovel letters, and agreements with eDiscovery vendors.
  • Liaise with internal departments (operations, procurement, information security, etc.) to support the procurement process and ensure efficient workflows.
  • Identify and escalate legal and compliance risks associated with new or existing agreements.
  • Draft and update firm templates for third-party contracts and provide training to ensure adherence to standard processes and contracting practices.
  • Stay informed on legal developments and emerging trends to incorporate relevant changes into the firm's agreements and policies.
  • Review and manage procurement processes to standardize contracting policies across the firm.

Requirements

  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills in procurement and contract law.
  • Minimum of three years of experience as an attorney in procurement or contract law.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced and complex environment to meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze and interpret complex information and offer practical legal solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in decision-making and documentation.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required.

Certifications

  • Bar membership in good standing for the jurisdiction of practice (or eligibility to obtain).

Skills

  • Expertise in procurement and contract law, particularly in drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based technology providers, artificial intelligence, and IT solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with legal, procurement, and operations teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of legal compliance and risk management practices.
