Associate Attorney - Collections

A law firm seeks an Associate Attorney to join its Collections practice. The ideal candidate will have civil litigation experience in Virginia and will collaborate with other attorneys within the firm to serve a diverse range of clients, including municipalities, health systems, and major credit card issuers. Duties

• Represent clients in collections matters, including civil litigation related to debt recovery.
• Draft and file legal documents, including motions and pleadings.
• Handle courtroom appearances, including motion practice and trial preparation.
• Collaborate with other attorneys to develop case strategies and client solutions.
• Provide excellent client service, maintaining clear communication and addressing client needs.
• Manage caseload efficiently, meeting deadlines and handling a high volume of work.
• Stay current on legal developments and changes in collections law.

Requirements

• Admitted to practice law in Virginia and in good standing (Maryland or North Carolina licensure is a plus).
• Civil litigation experience in Virginia, preferably in collections or related fields.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with clients and courts.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with legal technology and case management systems.
• Courtroom experience, including both motion practice and trial experience, is preferred.
• Knowledge of debt collection practices is highly desired.
• A collaborative and positive work ethic, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

• Admission to practice law in Virginia is required (Maryland or North Carolina admission is a plus).

• Civil litigation experience, particularly in collections law.
