Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm located in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a Privacy Counsel to join their growing Privacy Office within the General Counsel’s department. This role involves working closely with internal teams, including Procurement and Information Security, to ensure privacy compliance and manage vendor contracts globally. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and negotiating third-party agreements, conducting privacy risk assessments, and supporting global privacy initiatives.

Duties:

• Draft, review, and negotiate vendor agreements to include privacy terms, such as data processing, data transfer, and business associate agreements.
• Enhance and maintain the firm’s standard privacy agreements and legal processes.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate privacy considerations into the contract negotiation process.
• Provide advisory services to internal teams to minimize privacy risks while supporting business goals.
• Partner with other departments such as Information Security and Procurement to manage vendor contracts and perform due diligence.
• Conduct privacy impact assessments and monitor mitigation strategies for risk management.
• Assist in managing global privacy projects led by the General Counsel.
• Stay up to date with international privacy laws, including GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA, to ensure the firm’s compliance with current and emerging regulations.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in contract review and privacy advisory work.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a valid bar membership in good standing in a U.S. state.
• Strong knowledge of global privacy regulations and their practical application.
• Proven experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Data privacy certifications (CIPP, CIPM, etc.) are a plus.

Skills:

• In-depth understanding of privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other global regulations.
• Strong drafting, negotiating, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing cross-functional relationships.
• Organized, flexible, and able to navigate complex legal issues.
