Job Overview
A growing civil litigation law firm, specializing in plaintiff-side personal injury and school/government liability cases, is seeking an Associate Attorney. This position provides an opportunity to focus on case strategy and professional development, rather than being burdened with time-consuming tasks typically assigned to newer lawyers. The ideal candidate will have experience with depositions, court appearances, and an interest in attending mediations. Mentorship from senior attorneys, participation in trial preparation, and use of AI technology for increased efficiency are included. Trial participation is expected, with a clear path to transition into this role.

Duties

  • Manage a diverse caseload of personal injury matters in litigation
  • Prepare and draft legal documents, including complaints, discovery motions, and meet-and-confer letters
  • Conduct legal research and prepare responses to discovery disputes
  • Prepare clients for depositions and other applicable hearings
  • Take and defend depositions throughout the course of litigation
  • Prepare and respond to motions, including dispositive motions
  • Attend court appearances as required
  • Negotiate settlements for personal injury cases
  • Oversee investigations for assigned litigation matters

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience in personal injury law
  • Strong background in personal injury litigation, including pre-litigation case management and discovery
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
  • Active membership and good standing with the California State Bar
  • Experience in workers' compensation law is a plus
  • Proficient in written discovery and legal drafting
  • Experience conducting depositions

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active California State Bar License

  • Strong drafting skills for complaints, motions, and discovery responses
