Job Overview: A well-established Vermont law firm is seeking a Litigation Associate to join its dynamic litigation group. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work alongside highly experienced litigators and gain exposure to a wide range of civil and criminal cases. The firm is looking for a motivated individual to contribute to their growing litigation practice.

Location:Burlington, Vermont

Duties:

  • Assist in the preparation and filing of legal documents related to civil and criminal litigation cases.
  • Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and trials as required.
  • Manage case files, communicate with clients, and provide regular updates on case progress.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex litigation matters and provide support in case strategy development.
  • Prepare discovery requests and responses, and assist with document review and production.
  • Provide legal counsel and representation to clients in litigation matters.

Requirements:

  • 1-4 years of experience in civil or criminal litigation or completion of a judicial clerkship.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in legal drafting, including motions, pleadings, and discovery.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Vermont State Bar (or eligibility for admission).

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Strong case management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Vermont rules of procedure and court systems is preferred.
