Job Title:

Intellectual Property Associate Attorney- Technical/ Engineering Focus

Job Overview:

A prominent law firm in New York City, NY seeks a highly capable Intellectual Property Litigation Attorney with 2-4 years of relevant experience. The firm is known for handling high-stakes patent and trade secret disputes, particularly those involving complex technologies. This role offers the opportunity to work on impactful IP cases across multiple venues, including federal courts and administrative tribunals, in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Applicants should have a strong foundation in engineering or technical sciences, paired with sharp legal acumen and strategic thinking.

Duties:

  • Manage and support litigation matters involving patents and trade secrets.

  • Draft and revise motions, briefs, and discovery responses with precision and clarity.

  • Analyze complex technical subject matter related to IP disputes.

  • Collaborate with technical experts and internal stakeholders to develop litigation strategies.

  • Participate in depositions, hearings, and trial preparation as needed.

  • Conduct legal research and prepare written memoranda on various IP litigation topics.

  • Handle client communication and support business development initiatives.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in intellectual property litigation, particularly in patent and/or trade secret matters.

  • Strong writing, research, and advocacy skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and efficiently under pressure.

  • Membership in the New York State Bar is required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

  • An undergraduate or advanced degree in one of the following (or similar) disciplines is preferred:

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Computer Science

    • Biochemistry

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of IP litigation processes and case law.

  • Technical aptitude, especially in engineering or scientific fields.

  • Ability to translate technical language for legal audiences.

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with attention to detail.

  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Job Location:

  • New York City, NY

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health offerings including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.

  • Mental health and wellness support services.

  • Parental leave and support for family, child, elder, and pet care needs.

  • Short- and long-term disability coverage.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options.

  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with firm contributions.

  • Paid holidays and a generous, flexible paid time off program.

  • Participation in firm-sponsored retreats, mentorship programs, and professional development academies.

Substantial billable hours is the primary way to get the big bucks and partnership consideration at this large New York firm. With West Coast roots, but not attitude, these New York lawyers work hard. Competitive and fast-paced, this firm excels across practice areas, but is doing some particularly interesting VC work. Although a type A environment to be sure, the atmosphere is still friendly, albeit without a lot of casual partner/associate interaction. Partner/associate relationships are strong in professional terms, however, with excellent marks for training and a fairly regimented associate development program. Now competing to be one of New York's finest, this firm is increasingly selective in associate hiring.

Your information will not be forwarded to any employers at this time. A recruiter will contact you with more information once our internal review of your resume is completed.
