Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney

A law firm in New York City, NY, is seeking a Privacy and Cybersecurity Associate Attorney with 3-5 years of experience in data privacy counseling. The role involves leading projects, providing compliance advice, and developing comprehensive privacy programs while interfacing directly with clients.

Duties:

• Lead and manage privacy and cybersecurity projects, maintaining direct client communication.
• Perform compliance gap assessments and create comprehensive compliance programs.
• Draft and review privacy policies, procedures, and guidance, including incident response plans and business-facing guidance.
• Develop and implement contracting templates, playbooks, and advice on data sale/sharing and targeted advertising.
• Assist clients in determining priorities, assessing risks, and implementing effective compliance programs.
• Oversee the development and execution of playbooks and contracting strategies.
• Manage large and complex matters independently or as part of a team, ensuring timely completion.

Requirements:

• 3-5 years of practical experience in data privacy and cybersecurity counseling.
• Proven experience with state privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, WA MHMD) and practical advice on implementing these laws.
• Preferred experience with adtech, cookies/online trackers, and related regulations (e.g., TCPA, CANSPAM, DAA/NAI/IAB rules).
• Strongly preferred experience in financial and health/life sciences sectors, including familiarity with GLBA, HIPAA, and FTC/CFPB rules.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to practice in the jurisdiction (New York).
• Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US, CIPT, CIPM) preferred but not mandatory.
