A law firm seeks a Litigation Associate to join its civil defense practice in Royal Oak, MI. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity for a new or experienced attorney to handle civil rights, police procedures, and premises liability cases. The role includes opportunities for direct client interaction, court appearances, and hands-on experience in both state and federal courts. Duties

  • Defend municipalities, law enforcement, and businesses in civil rights, police procedures, and premises liability cases.
  • Appear in both state and federal courts, handling all aspects of litigation.
  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, pleadings, and discovery materials.
  • Manage a caseload of 10-15 cases, ensuring effective case management and timely resolution.
  • Interact with clients directly to provide legal guidance and strategy.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations and other dispute resolution processes.
  • Work closely with senior attorneys and other team members to develop case strategies.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Michigan Bar (or pending admission).
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Interest in civil rights and municipal defense law.
  • Ability to handle a caseload and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for both client interactions and court appearances.
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply.

Education

  • Doctorate in Jurisprudence (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Michigan Bar License (Required).
