Job Overview

A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to join its Litigation Department as Special Counsel, with a focus on complex construction litigation. This is a non-partner track role within the firm’s Complex Litigation Construction Practice, where the attorney will handle multi-party construction defect matters. The successful candidate will work autonomously on significant cases and contribute to high-stakes litigation, with a primary focus on construction disputes. Duties

  • Manage and lead multi-party construction defect litigation matters
  • Conduct legal research and draft substantive dispositive motions, pleadings, and discovery requests
  • Represent clients in court, arbitration, and other dispute resolution forums
  • Lead discovery processes, including depositions and document review
  • Assist with trial preparation, including strategy development and evidentiary hearings
  • Advise clients on construction-related legal issues, including risk transfer related to property damage claims
  • Coordinate with senior attorneys on case management and strategic planning
  • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure effective communication throughout the litigation process

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of litigation experience, specifically in construction defect and complex litigation matters
  • Experience in both courtroom and arbitration settings
  • Substantial experience conducting discovery and taking depositions
  • Proven track record of drafting motions, pleadings, and managing dispositive motions
  • Baseline knowledge of insurance risk transfer issues in construction and property damage claims
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex cases

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active member in good standing with the Florida Bar
  • Board Certification in Construction Law by the Florida Bar (preferred)

Skills

  • Strong oral advocacy skills, with courtroom or arbitration experience
  • Expertise in legal research, writing, and drafting of legal documents
  • Ability to manage complex litigation and multiple case files simultaneously
  • Knowledge of insurance risk transfer and property damage issues
  • Strong communication and client relationship management skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
