Senior Patent Agent

Job Overview: A law firm in Palo Alto, CA, is seeking a Senior Patent Agent with 10+ years of patent prosecution experience and registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. or M.S. in a relevant technical field and demonstrate expertise in conducting prior art searches, patent preparation, prosecution, and portfolio management.

Duties:

• Conduct prior art searches for patentability and freedom to operate analyses
• Analyze patents and scientific papers to assist with patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling
• Manage patent portfolios and develop patent strategy
• Provide technical expertise in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, virology, chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, or related disciplines

Requirements:

• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
• 10+ years of patent prosecution experience
• Ph.D. or M.S. in cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, virology, chemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacy, or equivalent
• Broad technical knowledge in biological sciences and pharmaceutical sciences
• Excellent academic record
• Written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in patent portfolio management and strategy development
• Fluency in multiple languages is a plus.
