A law firm seeks a dedicated and skilled Post-Conviction Relief Attorney to join its team in Murrieta, CA. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an attorney with experience in criminal defense or immigration law to gain valuable experience handling post-conviction relief cases. The ideal candidate will work on a variety of legal matters, including motions to vacate, expungements, and probation-related issues while interacting with both criminal and immigration practices. Duties:

  • Provide legal advice and counsel to clients on their rights regarding post-conviction matters.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and requests for early termination of probation.
  • Attend motion hearings and court sessions on behalf of clients, offering legal guidance and strategic advice post-hearing.
  • Assist with criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trial motions, pleas, and sentencing, collaborating with other attorneys on the team.
  • Draft legal motions, prepare relevant court documents, and conduct necessary legal research.
  • Evaluate case outcomes using legal precedents and develop effective strategies.
  • Manage a caseload of clients, ensuring the timely completion of legal tasks and maintaining client communication.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, particularly in intersecting areas of criminal and immigration law.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in criminal defense or immigration law is a plus.
  • Experience handling criminal cases, including post-conviction matters, at the state or local level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to team efforts.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California or the ability to obtain membership.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of criminal law, particularly related to post-conviction relief processes.
  • Experience with legal research and drafting motions.
  • Familiarity with immigration law is beneficial.
  • Strong courtroom presence and ability to advocate effectively for clients.
  • Proficient in case management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
