Job Overview:
A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Associate Attorney to join their team. This position focuses on elder law, including Medicaid and Veterans Benefits planning, as well as estate planning and asset protection. Duties:

  • Review Medicaid and Veterans Benefits applications and create plans for benefit approvals.
  • Assist clients with estate planning, including drafting wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents.
  • Work on decedent’s estates, gift tax returns, and estate tax returns.
  • Handle transactions related to family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and installment sales.
  • Develop and manage relationships with clients to ensure exceptional service and client satisfaction.
  • Conduct legal research and write clear, concise legal documents.
  • Collaborate with other firm members to drive success in the firm’s practice areas.
  • Provide clients with peace of mind by navigating complex estate planning and elder law processes.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in trust and estate law, preferably working with high-net-worth individuals.
  • Experience in drafting estate planning documents (wills, trusts, powers of attorney, etc.).
  • Knowledge of decedent's estates, gift tax returns, and estate tax returns.
  • Familiarity with family limited partnerships and limited liability companies, as well as related transactions.
  • Understanding of state and federal tax laws as they apply to elder law and estate planning.
  • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Must be a licensed attorney in good standing with the state bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the Illinois State Bar, in good standing.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for helping clients through complex legal matters.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid and Veterans Benefits planning (preferred).
  • Estate planning, asset protection, and elder law experience (preferred).
  • Financial knowledge and understanding of tax laws (helpful).
