Job Overview

A prominent law firm is seeking a skilled attorney with a minimum of 6 years of litigation experience to join the Litigation Department as Special Counsel in one of the following offices: Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, or Tampa. This is a full-time, non-partner track position that focuses on complex construction litigation, specifically multi-party construction defect matters. The successful candidate will work autonomously while contributing to a dynamic and challenging practice.

Duties

  • Lead multi-party construction defect litigation matters
  • Conduct legal research and draft substantive dispositive motions and pleadings
  • Manage discovery, including depositions and document review
  • Represent clients in court and arbitration hearings
  • Assist with trial preparation, including evidentiary hearings
  • Advise clients on construction-related legal issues, particularly insurance risk transfer for property damage claims
  • Work independently to handle case management and collaborate with senior attorneys on strategy
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates and legal counsel

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of litigation experience, with a focus on construction defect and complex litigation
  • Significant courtroom or arbitration experience
  • Proven experience in discovery, deposition-taking, and drafting dispositive motions
  • Some trial or evidentiary hearing experience preferred
  • Familiarity with insurance risk transfer issues for property damage claims
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple cases

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active member in good standing with the Florida Bar
  • Board Certification in Construction Law by the Florida Bar (preferred)

  • Excellent oral advocacy, with courtroom or arbitration experience
  • Strong research, writing, and document drafting skills
  • In-depth knowledge of construction law and litigation
