Job Overview: A reputable law firm is seeking a qualified Patent Agent for its Denver, Colorado office. This role involves supporting clients in patent protection efforts, conducting patent searches, and handling U.S. and foreign patent filings and prosecutions. The position is ideal for candidates with a scientific or engineering background and at least two years of experience in U.S. and foreign patent procedures. Location:

Duties:

  • Conduct prior art database searches for patentability and prior art analysis.
  • Draft and file various patent applications (provisional, utility, PCT, and design).
  • Engage in U.S. and international patent prosecution.
  • Draft responses to domestic and foreign official actions and manage client portfolios.
  • Collaborate with inventors and technical teams to gather information for patent applications.
  • Prepare amendments to patent claims, specifications, and abstracts as needed.
  • Monitor industry trends and changes in patent law to ensure compliance and provide client advisement.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience with IP docketing platforms and document management systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in time management, task delegation, and handling multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of patent prosecution, IP procedural requirements, and USPTO practices.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive firm and client information.

Education:

  • Degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., engineering, chemistry, biology, or computer science).

Certifications:

  • Current license to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant technical field, such as biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or physics.
  • Experience with U.S. and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) practice and international patent prosecution.
  • Experience in a law firm or corporate legal department setting.

Skills:

  • Proficiency with software programs for conflicts, new business intake, recordkeeping, timekeeping, billing, document management, and workflow.
  • Willingness to attend training and develop proficiency in new technologies.
