Job Title: Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A well-established law firm in New York City is seeking an experienced Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to join its dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled attorney to work closely with senior attorneys in providing comprehensive legal services to high-net-worth individuals, families, and businesses. The role involves estate planning, trust administration, and probate, with a focus on drafting legal documents, advising clients, and navigating complex estate issues. The position offers a hybrid remote work opportunity, with periodic travel to the Bantam office for those based in Connecticut.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel in estate planning, trust administration, and probate matters for high-net-worth clients.
  • Draft, review, and finalize key estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives.
  • Offer strategic advice to clients on ways to minimize estate taxes and protect assets.
  • Assist in the administration of estates and trusts, including filing legal documents, managing asset distribution, and resolving disputes.
  • Stay updated on developments in estate planning, tax law, and probate law through legal research.
  • Work collaboratively with clients' financial advisors and accountants to design comprehensive estate plans.
  • Represent clients in probate and trust administration court proceedings when necessary.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and understanding of client needs.

Requirements:

  • 4-6+ years of experience in trusts and estates law.
  • Admission to the New York Bar (Connecticut and/or Massachusetts Bar is a plus; the ability to waive is also acceptable).
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in good standing with the bar.
  • Proven experience in drafting estate planning documents, including complex trusts and estate administration.
  • Experience with estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent fiduciaries and beneficiaries in Probate Court matters.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to adapt to new information quickly and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, dedication, and professional conduct.
  • Ability to work well with diverse personalities and within various levels of an organization.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York Bar (and/or Connecticut and/or Massachusetts Bar) is required.

Skills:

  • Strong writing and verbal communication.
  • High level of organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with estate planning, trust administration, and probate procedures.
