Job Overview

A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a mid-level associate with 3–5 years of experience to join its well-established Public Finance practice within the Finance group. The firm handles a wide range of public finance matters including healthcare finance, economic development, housing, infrastructure, tax increment financing (TIF), special assessments, and education-related transactions. This role offers direct exposure to complex deals and clients including governmental entities, financial institutions, borrowers, and underwriters.

Duties

  • Represent clients as bond counsel, lender’s counsel, and disclosure counsel

  • Advise on matters involving state agencies, municipalities, and public sector financing

  • Draft, review, and negotiate financing documents and public offering materials

  • Conduct due diligence and manage transactional timelines

  • Provide legal advice related to tax, securities, UCC, and contract law applicable to public finance

  • Collaborate with partners and clients in structuring and closing deals

  • Manage multiple matters efficiently in a deadline-driven environment

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of relevant public finance experience

  • Hands-on experience serving as bond counsel, lender’s counsel, or disclosure counsel

  • Prior work with governmental or quasi-governmental agencies strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with transactional law and public finance regulatory requirements

  • Ability to manage workflows independently and within a team

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Academic emphasis in business law preferred

Certifications

  • Active Bar membership in good standing in the jurisdiction of hire (or ability to obtain admission promptly)

Skills

  • Strong drafting, analytical, and issue-spotting abilities

  • Understanding of public finance principles including tax and securities compliance

  • Proficiency in managing deal processes and coordinating with multiple stakeholders

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and responsive
