Job Overview

A law firm seeks a dedicated Associate Attorney with 0-3 years of experience to join its growing employment law practice in the Bay Area. This hybrid position offers an excellent opportunity for an aspiring litigator to handle a variety of cases representing plaintiffs in wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, and sexual assault lawsuits. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal writing, research, and advocacy skills, as well as a proactive attitude and a passion for plaintiff-side work. This position provides a supportive environment with mentorship, the opportunity to gain trial experience, and the chance to advance in a dynamic firm.

Duties

  • Conduct legal research and draft key documents such as demand letters, complaints, and discovery requests.
  • Manage calendaring for critical deadlines and ensure all tasks are completed promptly.
  • Handle written discovery and depositions, including both defending and taking depositions.
  • Assist in managing a caseload, working closely with senior attorneys to drive cases forward.
  • Conduct client intakes, calculate potential damages, and perform witness interviews.
  • Review documents and participate in case-building efforts, including preparing for trial.
  • Attend team meetings, focus groups, and case evaluations to contribute insights and strategy.
  • Prepare and participate in case presentations during litigation proceedings.
  • Occasionally work nights and weekends to meet case demands and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • 0-3 years of legal experience, preferably in employment law or litigation.
  • Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
  • Experience in drafting legal documents and conducting legal research.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and work independently.
  • Willingness to participate in trial-related activities.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as required by case demands.

Education

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar.

Skills

  • Familiarity with state and federal employment regulations (e.g., FEHA, CFRA, 1102.5, FMLA).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency with legal technology platforms for case management and research.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
