A law firm in Kansas City, KS is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will handle a high-volume caseload, primarily focused on litigation matters across multiple states, ensuring timely court appearances, motion drafting, and trial preparation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and appear for court appearances within reasonable travel distance, ensuring punctuality and adherence to court protocols.
  • Coordinate coverage for court calls requiring absence, attaching necessary documents and orders for attorney representation.
  • Draft, review, and file motions as required throughout the litigation process.
  • Prepare thoroughly for trials and arbitrations, occasionally requiring overnight stays in distant counties.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, employers, and opposing counsels to facilitate resolution of legal matters.
  • Maintain active licenses to practice law in Kansas and Missouri; additional licenses in IA, NE, ID, CA, WA, OR, AK, HI, NV are advantageous.
  • Utilize personal transportation for court appearances; travel expenses reimbursed per IRS mileage rates and firm policy.
  • Manage a diverse caseload efficiently, demonstrating strong multitasking abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite to draft pleadings, correspondence, and case documentation.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Kansas and Missouri; additional state bar admissions preferred.
  • Prior experience in litigation, including motion practice, court appearances, and trial preparation.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume workload independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues.
