Associate Attorney Family Law

Job Overview:
A law firm seeks a driven Associate Attorney to join its family law practice in Rochester, NY. This position involves managing a caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, and adoption. Duties:

• Provide legal representation to clients in family law matters, including divorce, child custody, spousal support, adoption, and related legal issues.
• Conduct legal research and draft a variety of legal documents, including petitions, motions, and settlement agreements.
• Represent clients in court hearings and trials, advocating for their best interests in family law matters.
• Counsel clients on their legal rights, responsibilities, and potential outcomes in family law disputes.
• Manage a caseload, maintaining consistent communication with clients to provide updates on their case developments.
• Participate in negotiation and settlement discussions, utilizing alternative dispute resolution methods like mediation when appropriate.
• Collaborate with the Regional Managing Attorney and legal professionals to foster a supportive and team-oriented work environment.
• Travel to courts and legal proceedings throughout central New York, including Albany and Saratoga Springs, as necessary.
• Meet billable hour requirements and coordinate with the billing department to ensure accurate client invoicing.

Requirements:

• A minimum of 1 year of general litigation experience is required; family law or matrimonial experience is preferred.
• Active membership in good standing with the New York State Bar (additional state bar memberships are a plus).
• Proficiency in managing sensitive legal matters, including divorce, child custody, domestic violence, and matrimonial disputes.
• Strong knowledge of the New York Family Court Act and Domestic Relations Law.
• Excellent legal writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• A positive, collaborative attitude and the ability to work effectively with a team.
• Strong advocacy skills, with the ability to manage high-stress litigation matters with professionalism and composure.
• Empathy, patience, and professionalism when working with clients from diverse backgrounds.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Licensed to practice law in New York State.

Skills:

• Strong legal research, writing, and case management abilities.
• Proficiency in legal technology tools and case management software.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work with clients and colleagues effectively.
