A law firm seeks a skilled Renewable Energy Tax Associate to join its team in Houston, TX. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex tax issues related to renewable energy transactions, including tax credit qualification, M&A deals, and tax equity financing. The ideal candidate will have experience in tax credit transactions and a passion for working on the cutting edge of renewable energy projects.

Duties

  • Advise clients on various tax issues relating to renewable energy, including tax credit qualification, construction requirements, and prevailing wage standards under relevant tax codes.
  • Work alongside transactional tax lawyers to assist with mergers and acquisitions (M&A), tax equity deals, and joint ventures within the renewable energy sector.
  • Provide legal guidance on tax credit transfers, and tax equity financing, and assist in the drafting of tax opinion letters.
  • Collaborate with clients to ensure compliance with tax regulations and optimize tax strategies for renewable energy transactions.
  • Represent clients in tax matters related to federal, state, and local levels, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Requirements

  • 1 to 4 years of experience in tax law within a law firm environment, specifically in renewable energy transactions.
  • Strong knowledge of tax credit transactions, tax equity financings, and tax credit transfers.
  • Experience drafting tax opinion letters is essential.
  • Exceptional academic qualifications.
  • An LL.M. in taxation is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Texas (TX Bar required).

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Preference for candidates with an LL.M. in taxation.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the Texas State Bar.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and legal writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to handle complex transactions and provide strategic tax advice.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy laws, including tax incentives and regulatory requirements.
