Biotechnology Patent Agent

A law firm in New York City, NY, is seeking an experienced Biotechnology Patent Agent to enhance their intellectual property team. This role demands a deep understanding of biotechnology and patent law, with responsibilities including patent prosecution, IP diligence, and strategic IP business counseling. The ideal candidate will possess strong scientific expertise, proven experience in patent prosecution, and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Duties:

• Manage and execute patent prosecution activities, including drafting, filing, and managing patent applications.
• Conduct IP diligence to support strategic IP business decisions and ensure robust IP protection.
• Assist with IP-transfer commercial transactions, ensuring alignment with legal and business requirements.
• Provide expert strategic counseling on IP matters, including portfolio management and patent strategy.
• Perform prior art searches, analyze patentability, and assess competitive IP landscapes.
• Prepare and review patent-related documents such as responses to office actions, appeals, and legal opinions.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to address complex IP issues and opportunities.
• Stay updated on advancements in biotechnology and relevant patent laws to provide accurate and informed counsel.

Requirements:

• A graduate degree in a biological science is required; a PhD is preferred.
• Degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or genetics is highly preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Admission to the patent Bar is required.
• Strong academic credentials and excellent references are preferred.
• A strong entrepreneurial spirit is preferred.

Education:

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in biological sciences, preferably molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or genetics.

Certifications:

• Admission to the patent Bar.
