A law firm seeks a highly skilled Patent Attorney with expertise in chemistry to join its intellectual property team. The ideal candidate will bring a strong academic background, professional experience in patent prosecution and counseling, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related discipline. This position offers an opportunity to work on innovative legal matters in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors.

Duties

  • Prepare, file, and prosecute domestic and international patent applications.
  • Provide strategic intellectual property counseling to clients in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
  • Conduct thorough patentability assessments and due diligence analyses.
  • Assist in developing global patent strategies aligned with client business objectives.
  • Collaborate with inventors, researchers, and corporate teams to ensure accurate technical disclosures.
  • Keep abreast of advancements in chemical and pharmaceutical patent law and share insights with clients and the legal team.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling, specifically in the chemical or pharmaceutical domains.
  • Proven expertise in handling complex technical subject matter and translating it into comprehensive legal strategies.
  • Strong organizational abilities with a detail-oriented approach to managing multiple cases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical and legal concepts clearly.

Education

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field is required.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with strong academic performance.

Certifications

  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
