A law firm seeks an entry-level immigration attorney to join its Chicago-based team. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a recent law school graduate or attorney with limited experience to build a legal career in the dynamic field of immigration law. As a key member of the firm’s immigration team, the successful candidate will work closely with senior attorneys and gain hands-on experience representing clients in various immigration matters. Duties:

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, handling both detained and non-detained cases.
  • Prepare and manage diverse immigration applications, including removal defense, family-based petitions, and other USCIS filings.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to clients on their immigration matters and assist with their case strategies.
  • Review and analyze immigration petitions and documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current laws.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on issues related to immigration law and policy changes.
  • Conduct client consultations, assess their immigration needs, and develop tailored legal strategies.
  • Assist in preparing clients and witnesses for court hearings or USCIS interviews.
  • Draft legal briefs and motions for submission to the Immigration Court and USCIS.
  • Manage a caseload efficiently, meeting deadlines and prioritizing client needs.

Requirements:

  • 0-3 years of experience in immigration law, with a willingness to learn and develop expertise in this practice area.
  • Ability to effectively manage a caseload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on providing excellent client service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other attorneys, legal assistants, and staff.
  • Familiarity with immigration processes such as family-based petitions, humanitarian relief, and detained cases is a plus.
  • Experience with case management software is preferred but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of Illinois or eligibility to obtain membership.

Skills:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive legal matters with professionalism.
  • Proficiency with case management software and legal research tools is advantageous.
