Job Title: Patent Agent

Job Overview:

A distinguished law firm based in West Palm Beach, FL is actively seeking an experienced Patent Agent to support its dynamic intellectual property practice. This role involves close collaboration with legal professionals across various disciplines and focuses primarily on protecting innovations in the life sciences sector. The ideal candidate brings deep scientific knowledge and hands-on experience with patent prosecution strategies to guide clients through the intellectual property lifecycle.

Duties:

• Conduct in-depth assessments of inventions for patent eligibility across diverse scientific domains

• Prepare and draft U.S. patent applications with a focus on life sciences innovations

• Manage all aspects of U.S. patent prosecution, including coordination with global counsel for foreign filings

• Assist in IP due diligence reviews and strategic management of patent portfolios

• Perform detailed legal and technical analyses relating to patentability and intellectual property rights

• Collaborate with legal teams, clients, and stakeholders to align patent strategy with broader business goals

• Serve as a point of contact for cross-departmental patent initiatives and liaise with external advisors

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of focused experience in patent prosecution, preferably in a law firm or corporate setting

• Deep subject matter expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Demonstrated ability to navigate complex scientific concepts and translate them into actionable legal frameworks

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (e.g., biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology)

Certifications:

• Registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or eligible for registration in the near term

Skills:

• Advanced understanding of biological and chemical technologies

• Strong analytical and research capabilities

• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment

• Exposure to mechanical or electrical technologies is a plus
