Job Overview
A dynamic law firm is seeking a Patent Agent with 4-7 years of patent prosecution experience to assist in all aspects of patent research, application preparation, and prosecution activities. This role involves client support throughout the patent process and managing patent portfolios with minimal attorney oversight. A hybrid work schedule is available.

Duties

  • Draft, prepare, and submit patent applications to the USPTO with limited attorney supervision.
  • Review and respond to communications from the USPTO and foreign patent offices.
  • Engage in client interactions and provide guidance to IP support professionals.
  • Support patent enforcement, licensing, and business transactions.
  • Prepare patentability, validity, freedom to operate, and infringement opinions with attorney review.
  • Assist attorneys with complex research and analysis, including literature and patent searching.
  • Mentor junior patent agents and provide training on procedures.

Requirements

  • 4-7 years of patent agent experience.
  • Passed Patent Bar Exam and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Advanced scientific degree (M.S., Ph.D.) or Bachelor’s Degree with relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills tailored to the audience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.
  • Familiarity with patent litigation and in-depth understanding of patent law.

Education

  • Advanced degree in a relevant scientific field preferred.

Certifications

  • Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and drafting skills.
  • Ability to manage patent portfolios independently.
  • In-depth knowledge of all stages of the patent lifecycle.
  • Ability to conduct and evaluate complex patent and literature searches.
  • Capacity to handle issues arising in patent matters effectively.
