Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Project Finance Associate Attorney to join their Energy, Infrastructure, Project, and Asset Finance practice in Chicago. The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience in project finance with a focus on renewable energy investments. This role involves working on cutting-edge project finance work, including debt, equity, and tax monetization financings, restructurings, acquisitions, and joint ventures in the energy transition market. The candidate will collaborate with leading practitioners and contribute to multidisciplinary project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle project finance transactions, including debt, equity, and tax monetization financings, restructurings, acquisitions, and joint ventures in the renewable and alternative energy sector.
  • Manage deal teams and processes across practice areas and geographic locations.
  • Conduct research and draft memoranda tailored to client needs, from brief to complex.
  • Oversee and conduct due diligence processes.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, opposing counsel, and other transactional legal teams.
  • Exercise sound judgment in internal and external communications.
  • Provide direct assistance to senior lawyers in day-to-day legal services for international and domestic clients.
  • Counsel clients on various financing transactions, including asset-based finance, leveraged finance, acquisition finance, and other project finance transactions.
  • Advise private equity funds, financial institutions, and borrowers on financing, development, and restructuring of renewable energy facilities and clean technology assets.
  • Mentor and train junior team members, participate in continuing education, and contribute to client development initiatives.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of law firm or in-house project finance experience, with a focus on renewable energy investments.
  • Strong academic credentials with a Juris Doctor (JD) degree (LLM or foreign equivalent) from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed, or eligible to become licensed, to practice law in New York or Illinois.
  • Demonstrated interest in project financings and acquisitions/divestitures of infrastructure in the renewable and alternative energy sector.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.
  • Strong time management abilities with the capacity to handle multiple projects under pressure.
  • Intellectual curiosity and creative thinking.
  • Commercial and business awareness, with a client service focus and responsiveness.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school (LLM or foreign equivalent).

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York or Illinois, or eligible for licensure.
