Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm, based in West Palm Beach, FL, is currently seeking a skilled and driven Patent Agent to become an integral part of its intellectual property team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, responding to office actions, preparing opinions, and conducting prior art searches, specifically in the medical devices and bioengineering sectors. Strong technical knowledge in mechanical engineering, AI, and computer science is highly advantageous.

Duties:

  • Draft, prosecute, and manage patent applications with a focus on medical devices and bioengineering innovations.
  • Respond to office actions and work with clients to navigate patent examination processes.
  • Assist in the development of legal opinions regarding patentability, infringement, and validity.
  • Conduct comprehensive prior art searches to support the patent process.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers and other technical experts to understand and protect clients’ innovations.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with USPTO guidelines and best practices.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in medical device technologies and intellectual property law.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Patent Agent, specifically in drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Expertise in the fields of medical devices, bioengineering, and related technical areas such as mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, and computer science.
  • Strong working knowledge of patent law and USPTO processes.
  • Ability to draft clear, detailed patent applications and communicate complex technical information effectively.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, or a related field.

Certifications:

  • Admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
