Job Overview: An established law firm in Austin, TX is seeking a talented Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property Practice Group. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with clients from diverse industries across the country. The selected candidate will contribute to a growing practice focused on intellectual property law, providing innovative and strategic patent development and counseling support. The role is ideal for professionals with a strong background in drafting patent applications and advising on complex IP matters.

Duties:

  • Support strategic development and management of patent portfolios
  • Draft patent applications in technology fields including:
    • Software and web applications
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and related fields
    • Telecommunications and integrated circuits
  • Prosecute patent applications and liaise with clients to address complex IP issues

Requirements:

  • Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science preferred
    • Degrees in mechanical engineering or relevant technical fields may be considered
  • Experience with drafting detailed software patent applications is a strong advantage
  • Strong academic background and comfort in client-facing interactions
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related technical field
  • Advanced degrees in relevant areas are preferred

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration required

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent drafting, particularly for software and high-tech inventions
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication and client interaction abilities
  • Attention to detail with a strategic approach to IP management
