Job Overview

A reputable national law firm is seeking a Mid-Level Litigation Associate to join its Defense Litigation team. This opportunity is based out of Schererville, Indiana, with flexible remote or hybrid arrangements available. The role involves handling a diverse caseload including general liability and professional liability matters. The ideal candidate will possess strong legal writing and analytical skills and will be entrusted with significant case responsibilities from the outset.

Location

Duties

  • Handle all aspects of litigation in state and federal courts

  • Draft and argue motions, including dispositive and complex procedural motions

  • Prepare legal opinions, pleadings, and discovery responses

  • Conduct legal research and provide risk analysis and recommendations

  • Manage depositions, pre-trial preparation, and potential trial responsibilities

  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, and internal teams

Requirements

  • Admission to the Indiana Bar (active and in good standing)

  • Admission to the Illinois Bar is strongly preferred, especially for remote candidates working from Illinois

  • Litigation experience preferred

  • Background in general liability defense and/or professional liability defense (e.g., medical malpractice, legal malpractice, E&O)

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active member of the Indiana State Bar

  • Illinois State Bar admission preferred for applicable candidates

Skills

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills

  • Ability to manage multiple litigation matters with minimal supervision

  • Experience drafting complex motions and legal memoranda

  • Effective oral advocacy and negotiation skills
