Job Title: Civil Litigation Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A law firm based in Grand Rapids, MI is actively seeking a licensed attorney to join its litigation team. The position offers significant exposure to civil litigation through regular court appearances, legal drafting, negotiations, and collaborative teamwork. Duties:

  • Represent clients in 5 to 15 civil hearings weekly, both virtually and in person, across the state of Michigan

  • Draft and review legal pleadings and documents for court submission

  • Conduct legal research and stay up-to-date with relevant laws and procedural requirements

  • Negotiate with opposing counsel to resolve disputes or reach settlements

  • Prepare reports and updates for supervising attorneys

  • Collaborate with internal teams and court personnel

  • Maintain compliance with court deadlines and firm protocols

Requirements:

  • Licensed to practice in Michigan (pending bar results accepted)

  • Willingness to travel within the state for court hearings

  • 0-3 years of experience.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail

  • Ability to analyze legal data and summarize findings

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Reliable and professional demeanor under pressure

  • Experience using Microsoft Office; familiarity with Westlaw or LexisNexis preferred

  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven setting

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active Michigan State Bar license or pending bar exam results

  • Licenses in additional states (e.g., IN, OH, MT) are advantageous but not required

Skills:

  • Litigation or courtroom experience (0–3 years preferred)

  • Research and legal writing proficiency

  • Technological adaptability (especially with legal software)

  • Strong interpersonal collaboration skills

  • Analytical and strategic thinking
