Job Overview:
A premier law firm in Oak Park, IL is seeking an experienced and dedicated Associate Immigration Attorney to join its growing team. Duties:

  • Explain complex immigration concepts and provide strategic legal solutions.
  • Represent both non-detained and detained individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
  • Manage a caseload efficiently, ensuring deadlines and client needs are met.
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at centers.
  • Prepare a variety of immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration applications and packets as needed.
  • Work with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on immigration law changes.
  • Conduct strategic immigration consultations with potential clients to assess needs and determine the best approach.
  • Develop case strategies and prepare clients/witnesses for court/USCIS testimony.
  • Provide legal analysis and advice to clients on case benefits and potential outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit legal briefs for diverse immigration cases.

Requirements:

  • 1 to 4 years of experience in Immigration Law.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload and move legal cases forward.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with a team.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with case management software is preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the bar in the state of Illinois (or ability to gain admission).

Skills:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and develop effective strategies.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Experience in family-based immigration petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, detained cases, citizenship, and other USCIS applications.
