Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm is looking for a skilled Patent Agent to join their team in Chicago. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge patent prosecution in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will assist in evaluating invention technology, drafting patent applications, and working with clients to protect intellectual property across various advanced technology sectors.

Duties:

  • Collaborate with inventors, researchers, and attorneys to evaluate invention technology and assess patentability.
  • Draft and file patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Respond to USPTO actions and client inquiries regarding patent prosecution matters.
  • Develop and manage patent portfolios in collaboration with clients.
  • Support the prosecution of patents in key technological fields such as 5G, Wi-Fi, wireless technologies, AI, and processor systems.
  • Stay updated on developments in the field of patent law, particularly in emerging technologies.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent prosecution.
  • Strong technical background in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Ability to register with the USPTO or currently registered as a patent agent.
  • Experience working with technologies such as 5G, AI, wireless communications, image processing, and RF systems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and legal teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.

Certifications:

  • USPTO registration or qualification to register as a patent agent.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of patent prosecution processes and USPTO guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with a focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Expertise in emerging technologies like autonomous vehicles, robotics, and AI preferred.
